Second Life residents have voted Metaversally Speaking as their favourite blog on all things related to the virtual world!
I’ll admit it came as a huge surprise to me, especially considering how many other fantastic bloggers are out there, as well as many who have been around much longer than me.
I started Metaversally Speaking about a year ago as a blog with pretty much no aim, other than to be a personal journal of my Second Life adventure. Somewhere along the line, its readership managed to grow and I suddenly realised that although I was writing for myself, I was also writing for an audience. That’s usually a sure sign that you just dug yourself a big hole, and now someone is selling tickets to watch the car crash you just landed yourself into.
I bet Linden Lab feel stupid for giving an award to someone who can keep to a single analogy within the same sentence now.
People have told me that they like my “Tell it how it is” style – being able to call out things about Second Life which just make you think “What in the name of all that is Holy?” and then proceed to make a mockery out of it. Humour is a strong force behind the style of writing I employ here at Metaversally Speaking.
There’s rarely a wasted opportunity to make fun of pretentious, self-congratulatory, high-minded circumstances that make your eyes roll. Particularly when they give you an award for Best Blogger. I’d have been perfectly happy being the guy at the back, making snide and bitchy remarks about the winner, but now I have to live in the knowledge that it’s me who’s the butt of the jokes.
*cough*
But in all seriousness, it is a great honour to have been voted for what is the only real awards of Second Life, voted amongst the gridwide populace themselves. It’s a huge confidence boost for someone who’s dyslexia has meant I’ve spent most mylife fearing writing. It’s odd to think that a few months ago, I planned to close this blog down – I’m certainly glad I kept it going now!
I want to thank three special people who have stood by my side from Day One, and have always shown me unwavering loyalty and unquestionable friendship – Aribeth Coronet, Bailey Longcloth and Rrishanna Regina. Three ladies without whom I just would not have survived the last 2 and a half years in SL.
And I want to thank everyone who voted for Metaversally Speaking – I never for a second expected anyone would even vote for us, considering how many other fantastic blogs are out there. It makes writing here well worth the time and effort to be shown such appreciation, and I’ll keep writing as it appears there are some people who are reading!
And so it is – a blog which I only really started taking seriously about 6 months ago, and which isn’t automatically listed on a major feed. A blog which was born out of no particular ambition other than to make people think and laugh. A blog which doesn’t take itself too seriously at all. And yet, it’s Second Life residents’ favourite blog.
Go figure. If I can do it, then you can realise your virtual dreams too.

Congratulations Prad, I didn’t vote for you but with my luck of backing the wrong horse lately that was probably a blessing in disguise, nice to see a blog that has humour with and charm winning anyway.

So very appropriate — it’s nice to see that SL residents have voted your blog for the fun it provides
When people lose their sense of humour, they lose everything. I’m glad you’re around to make us smile

Well Prad, you’ve got yourself another reader, due to your award , well done! Heard your name before but didn’t realise you had a blog. Read a few of the articles, and I’m liking your style already.

Well, as a new writer on Prad’s blog I got a hint of this from him on Friday night. Then I got stuck in limbo-teleporting land for half an hour trying to move from a dance club to a writing club in-world. Having landed still dancing and skanitily clad at my new writing club, I made the administration decision to have a day of rest away from the web and my second life for the weekend, and came back online this afternoon to find – drumrollple-ease – this!
Sorry I missed your big announcement, and debut as top SLogger / blogger, Prad. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to stick around a bit longer, and try to live up to your thoughts. You deserved it, you have a loyal fan base, and say the most apt things to my experience in SL also.
